How long have you been in Greenville?
I have been in the Greenville area, as a student at Clemson, for the past three years. I am going into my Senior Year at Clemson, majoring in Business Marketing.
Most interesting fact about you: I can do a standing backflip, which is something that I learned how to do when I was in sixth grade. I always thought that doing a standing backflip was cool, and naturally thought that girls would like it.
Your background: I am the oldest of four, two sisters, Heidi and Ashley and a brother, Adam. My parents are awesome, my Mother is an Occupational Therapist and my Father is retired but was the Vice President of Under Armour.
I was born in Madison, Wisconsin but grew up in Vermont for half of my life, and then Annapolis, Maryland for the other half. Clemson has always been a huge family school for us and I’ve wanted to go to Clemson since first grade, I have never looked anywhere else. It also helped that my Dad went to Clemson and was an entrepreneur. His company, like ours at Kanga, also took off during his Junior Year.
My Dad is my mentor. He also serves as Kanga’s advisor, and anything big we do he looks over. It is really cool, we have always been close but to have this relationship is awesome and has opened up a new level on what we can connect about. His initial investment in our startup has been a key success for us.
We tried out for Shark Tank two years ago, around this time of year. Our Shark Tank episode just aired in April but we actually went out to California and were on the Shark Tank, filming in September of 2018. I remember we got the call, the call saying we were going to be on Shark Tank. I was stoked and told everyone that we had to go surfing when we are in California.
It was a surreal experience, we all looked at each other and basically thought that we, of all people, shouldn’t be in this situation. So we said we were going to make the most of it [Shark Tank trip, video below] and have fun. That is what we did.
Shark Tank and everything after has been humbling. A lot of people will come up because they notice the Kanga brand, that is the most humbling thing. It really goes to show the amount of support we got from our community and I know that we would not have been on Shark Tank, or even at Kanga, if it was not for them.
Currently reading or watching: I am currently reading, ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People,’ by Dale Carnegie, and, ‘All Marketers are Liars,’ Seth Godin.
Hobby: I am super big into the outdoors, there is a lot to due here. Hiking, cliff jumping, wake boarding, boating, you name it. Anything that involves nature is something that I am going to be about.
Tagline / Motto: If you are not having fun why are you doing it?
Who do you work for? I work for Kanga. The most fun, convenient, affordable way to keep your case cold. The Casemate is a patient pending sleeve, it holds a case of cans, similar to a koozie but all for a case of whatever you’re drinking. Kanga started as a class project in Clemson. Logan, the Founder, visioned the idea, and I started working with Logan doing brand and video. Our group has formed together because we are willing to work together, this is what led us to Shark Tank.
What is your day-to-day on the job? I oversee branding and digital marketing at Kanga. I also tap into sales, product development and other Kanga needs.
How do you think Greenville would describe you in one word? Greenville probably knows me as a student. Or, maybe the Kangaroo Kid from Shark Tank.
